Our Top Tips for Buying football boots for junior football players

Buying football boots for junior football players

Although junior players only spend a couple of hours a week wearing football boots, it’s still super important to protect their feet, ankles, legs and hips from growth related injuries, so we can keep them out on the field enjoying the game they love!

A few things to consider

  • Most traditional footy boots are very flat - this can lead to injury in growing athletes as it increases the load through the heel, calf, achilles tendon and feet

  • Children should only wear ‘firm ground’ boots - they have more studs to distribute pressure more evenly across the foot

  • We recommend that children and adolescents wear boots with a 10mm heel-toe gradient (height at the back compared to the front of the boot)

  • If your child wears orthotics, you should try to get boots with a removable insole so you can take that out to fit the orthotic into the shoe

  • Make sure they fit well - width and length
